Rising to popularity in the 1980s, Strawberry Shortcake and Custard (her cat) were the 1977 creation of Muriel Fahrion when she worked for American Greetings as an illustrator.
Loved by both adults and children, the Strawberry Shortcake line of characters was expanded to include Huckleberry Pie, Blueberry Muffin, Apple Dumplin', and Raspberry Tart. Sticking with the dessert theme, 21 new friends and villains followed and most had corresponding pets from 1980 to 1985.
The Strawberry Shortcake empire blossomed and even to this day, there continues to be a high demand for the nostalgic toys, movies, and comic books featuring the endearing characters.
