The Regal Musical Instrument Company dates back nearly a century to its founding in 1908 in Chicago. After becoming one of the largest manufacturers of musical instruments in the world by the 1930s, the company soon moved heavily into production of resonator guitars, which are acoustic guitars that use metal resonators to produce sound.
Regal’s success continued until 1954 when it halted production of all fretted instruments. In 1965, Fender resurrected the Regal name, manufacturing and distributing banjos. Later they reappeared under Saga Musical Instruments, resuming production of standard and resonator guitar models.
With recent additions to the product lines, such as four-string resonator bass guitars, Regal continues to succeed and live up to its former glory.
