The first Peugeot was built in 1882, and although it only had two wheels, 'Le Grand Bi' was a technical marvel that set the stage for their automobile production. Frenchman Armand Peugeot was an enthusiastic supporter of the automobile and was convinced very early of its viability.

In 1929, Peugeot released the 201, marking the first time a vehicle was numbered in this manner. For the next 60 years, Peugeot would go on to release dozens of vehicles that would make up the bulk of the French car fleet.
