Packard - available at 3 stores *
Packard Motor Car Company began life in 1899 as the premier luxury automobile maker in America. For 50 years, the Packard name was associated with sophistication and elegance. More expensive that any other car available, Packard was popular with American socialites and European heads-of-state.
The stock market crash of 1929 spelled the end for a number of American car makers, but Packard survived and continued to create beautiful cars for the discerning driver. As the 50s dawned, however, Packard gambled that lower-end cars would be profitable for the company. It was a gamble that would cost the company dearly.
By 1957, Packard had partnered with Studebaker, but the diluted luxury of the cars took the shine off the brand and Packard finished. Today, they are highly coveted by collectors all over the world. Why are they so beloved? As the ads used to say, ask the man who owns one.
