Olympic Airlines is the state-run flag-carrying airline for Greece. Based at Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport in Athens, Olympic Airlines offers scheduled service to 77 domestic and international destinations.

Founded in 1930 as Icarus Airlines, the airline soon failed, like its namesake. From the ashes of Icarus, Olympic Airlines was born and now operates an impressive fleet of 40 aircraft. Among the fleet is the huge Airbus A340, which handles the long-haul routes.

Suffering from the industry downturn that affected so many airlines after the political events of 2001, Olympic Airlines is restructuring its service. The Greek media speculates the airline will be renamed Pantheon, but until then, Olympic remains the primary airline for the country.
