Magellan Navigation, Inc. was founded in 1986 and has grown into a world leader and innovator in navigation and positioning solutions. The company specializes in GPS products for vehicle and handheld use, GIS/mapping and OEM products, such as consumer electronics, automotive navigation and high-precision applications.

The California-based company has vehicle and handheld GPS navigation products, maps, software and accessories. Numerous Magellan products have won awards, such as their portable car navigation systems, outdoor handheld navigation devices and the ProMark, their best-selling single frequency GPS survey product line on the market.

In 2001, the Thales Group acquired Magellan and merged the companies to form Thales Navigation. The new company was later renamed Magellan after being acquired by a group of investors in 2006.
