Hertz, the worlds leading vehicle rental company first opened its doors in 1918. 22 year old Walter Jacobs repainted and repaired his fleet of a dozen Model T Fords himself, and the business did so well that within five years it generated annual revenues to the tune of one million dollars.
Jacobs sold his company to John Hertz, where it was renamed Hertz Drive-Ur-Self and subsequently acquired by General Motors. Opening the first rental facility at Chicago's Midway Airport, Hertz introduced the Fly/Drive rental program.
Changing hands again and renamed the Hertz Corporation, in the 1950s' the company went on the stock exchange and by 1970 was on-line 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Hertz as we know it today is a multi-national company owned by Ford and offering great deals and customer service on an always new fleet of vehicles
