Known as a futurist and a minimalist, Helmut Lang started his career in fashion in 1977 and burst onto the Paris scene in 1986. His signature clingy t-shirts soon became a couture must-have with a price to match.

Austrian-born Lang uses uncommon, often high-tech materials in sharp lines and clean cuts, creating casual but elegant silhouettes popular in the 80s and early 2000. In addition to men's and women's clothing lines, Lang has released specific jean, underwear, protective eyewear, shoe, accessory and fragrance lines all kept under the same collection name.

In February 2005, Lang left his own label, which was sold to a Tokyo company in 2006. Alexandre Plokhov, a young and talented, rising designer is rumored to be the new designer of the Helmut Lang label.
