Harley Davidson was born in 1903, when William Harley and Arthur Davidson started producing one of the first American motorcycles. They worked out of a 10 x 15 foot wooden shed.
The bikes sold well, won races and set records on gas mileage. In 1908, the first Harley Davidson motorcycle for police duty was delivered to the Detroit, Michigan Police Department. The founders set about actively looking for dealers. In 1918, half of Harley Davidson's production line was sold to the military. The first American to enter Germany in World War I was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Loved by millions, Harley Davidson motorcycles have become a cultural icon. Still one of the biggest manufacturers, always one of the best and certainly one of the most distinctive, Harley Davidson has celebrated its 100th anniversary and is enjoying looking towards the future.
