Gucci - available at 18 stores *
The Gucci House was founded in 1920 by Guccio Gucci, the son of an Italian leather craftsman, who traveled around Europe admiring aesthetics and culture.
The Gucci House nearly dissolved as a fashion staple before designer Tom Ford was named creative director in 1993. He brought life back to the company by showing the world what Gucci style really was: urban, aggressive and seductive. In 2004, however, Ford and his business partner left the company after a disagreement with the owners. His personally-trained followers, Alessandra Facchinetti, John Ray and Frida Giannini, took his place.
Recently, Gucci cut back from 20,000 to 5,000 items, keeping only the most popular: the bamboo-handled hangbag, various shoes, watches, jewelry, silk scarves, sports articles, belt clasps, eyeglasses, etc.
