Based in St. Louis, the company was created in 1886 when former brush Electric Company's executive W. H. Lawrence formed the National Carbon Company, the present-day energizer. Ten years later, they created the world's first consumer-use battery, "The Columbia."

Since its humble beginnings, Energizer has grown into a multi-national leader with numerous patents. In fact, they produce six billion battery cells a year. The company also has toys, games, medical devices, calculators, watch batteries, keyless entry batteries, garage door openers and more.

In 2003, the company acquired the Schick-Wilkinson Sword company, adding world-class personal care products to Energizer's portfolio.
