The University of California, Irvine is one of 10 University of California campuses, located near Newport Beach. Their varsity athletic teams compete under the UCI Anteaters name.

The college boasts nationally-competitive teams in basketball, baseball, swimming, rowing and sailing. Their most impressive team, however, is their men's water polo team. The team was created in 1966 and has been among the nation's top five teams for the past 40 years. The Anteaters are a part of the Big West conference and the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
