Birkenstock - available at 14 stores *
Birkenstock is German brand of sandals that have contoured cork and rubber soles that somewhat conform to the wearer's feet. The sublime comfort found in these soles was created in 1897.
American Margot Fraser found the brand when vacationing in Germany and established a trading company called Birkenstock Footprint Sandals, Inc. in 1966. The footwear became a mainstream, daily accessory for Americans, although they are traditionally worn as slippers in Germany. Model Heidi Klum designs and wears Birkenstocks, which has helped keep the company at the forefront of fashion for the elite and every day person. The California-based company was renamed to Birkenstock Distribution USA, Inc. in 2005.
Birkenstock also makes other brands of footwear with the contoured footbeds, such as Betula, Tatami, Birki's and Footprints.
