The Boston, Massachusetts native later became a newspaper editor, which proved to be a profitable venture. He went on to form America's premier fire department and public lending library.

Benjamin Franklin had particular interest in scientific experiments and he invented the lightning rod, glass harmonica, swimfins, bifocals, and catheter just to name a few.
