Britain is under siege, being berated by the Nazi's blitzkrieg tactics. The War on the homefront created many orphans, including Cockney children Charlie, Carrie, and Paul Rawlins. Sent off to the village of Pepperinge Eye, they must live with Eglantine Price, a lonely woman who they discover is secretly studying to become a witch.

Miss Price knows that with the young boys away at war, England has been left wide open to be taken over. Her solution? Study witchcraft. Taking off for London on an enchanted bed, the foursome tries to complete her correspondence course. They end up in the Lost Isle of Naboombu, a land filled with talking animals that play football.
