Founded in 1921 by Thomas T. Wilson as the Nashville Standard Giants, they soon took on the moniker Nashville Elite Giants. The team moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1931, joining the original National Negro League, and renaming themselves the Cubs.
The league collapsed, and the team heads back to Nashville, joining the Southern League as the Elite Giants. When the Negro League restarted in 1933, the team joined for the next two seasons. The team moved to Columbus in 1935, and to Washington, D.C. in 1937, retaining the Elite Giants name in each location.
In 1938, the team made its final move, becoming the Baltimore Elite Giants. Switching to the Negro American League for 1949 and 1950, they disbanded. While the team never made it to any championships, the team saw the early career of baseball legends. Playing legends included Satchel Paige, Roy Campanella, Felton Snow, and Jim Gilliam.
