Ballantine Books - available at 2 stores *
One of America's largest publishers of hardcover, trade paperback and mass market paperback books, Ballantine's 13,000 backtitles cover every category and genre, making it one of the most diverse publishers. Owned by Random House, the label is the umbrella for Ballantine Books, Ballantine Reader's Circle, Del Rey, Del Rey/LucasBooks, Fawcett, Ivy, One World, and Wellspring.
Their bestselling authors include Suzanne Brockmann, Julie Garwood, Tess Gerritsen, Kristin Hannah, Linda Howard, Jonathan Kellerman, Lorna Landvik, Judith McNaught, Anne Perry, and Jeff Shaara.
Paperback pioneers, Ian and Betty Ballantine, founded the company in 1952, after founding Penguin USA and Bantam Books. The company's paperbacks took off during World War II, as they were easy to distribute to the troops. The first ever titles printed originally in paperback format, rather than hardcover, were introduced by the company in this period.
