It may just seem like a small patch of grass, but with a little imagination that backyard turns into a wondrous landscape of beaches, oceans, glaciers and mountains. This creative view is the message of Backyardigans, a CGI-animated children's television show from Nick Jr. and Nelvana, a Canadian animation studio.

Since its November 2004 debut, Backyardigans has developed a strong following among young children, as well as a small cult following among adults. The show's five principal characters, preschool friends, travel to distant lands without ever leaving their backyard. During their adventures, they encourage viewers to dance and sing along.

By encouraging children to not only use their imaginations but also to stay active while watching, Backyardigans is a show that parents can feel good about.
