ATARI - available at 18 stores *
Since 1972, Atari has been a corporate and brand name with several owners. The company develops, distributes and publishes games for all major systems and PCs. They take the number 3 spot as third-party publishers in the United States.
Founded in 1993, the company was first called GT Interactive until it was bought by IESA six years later. Atari's North American operations are handled by the company's majority owner, Infogrames Entertainment SA.
The game consol Atari defined the videogame industry from the 70's to mid 80's. One of the creators, Nolan Bushnell thought there was commercial potential for a coin-op version of Spacewar! A couple of years later partner, Ted Dabney created a hand-wired system featuring Computer Space, which was compatible with black and white TV sets.
