In 1945, Fortune Magazine reported that Argus cameras, "overnight changed candid camera photography in the U.S. from a class hobby to a mass pastime." The camera that caused such uproar was the Model C3 35mm, introduced in 1939. It remained the world's best selling 35mm camera for almost 3 decades.

The first Argus Model A camera was manufactured in 1936, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It set a world record by being the first easy-to-use, affordable 35mm camera. In its opening week, thirty thousand models were sold at the cost of $12.50 a piece. Not only did the camera have social influence, it also pushed Kodak to change manufacturing from 126 film format to 35mm.

Range finder cameras, also referred to as the "Brick", were introduced in 1938. This set the way for many products to come. Today, Argus is a leading producer of digital cameras and video recorders.
