Anyi began by taking up Chinese calligraphy and brush painting from her grandfather, an army general. She then followed her technical training, which lead her to a career as a chemical engineer. As a hobby during this time, Anyi was a competitive ballroom dancer. Finally, this master of all trades switched to shoe designer, after being inspired at the time of her sister's wedding.
