The Belgian designer studied fashion at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, during the late 70's. Demeulemeester belonged to the group, the 'Antwerp Six', which was a radical, yet distinctive group of six Belgian designers. Beginning as a freelance designer, she then ventured off on her own in 1985, starting the Demeulemeester label.Often Demeulemeester appears in Paris Fashion week, where her line is known for its' attitude. She remains a resident of Belgium, where she lives with her husband, photographer Patrick Robyn.
