Strong, serious and in-charge, …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead is an indie rock band known for heavy subject matter. Often during shows, the members put on spectacular shows by destroying equipment on stage. Their protest-like sounds are analogous with the shouting and authority of anthems.

The two founding members of …Trail of Dead (as they're often called), were childhood friends who first met in Hawaii. After moving to Washington in 1993, Conrad Keely and Jason Reece started the band Benedict Gehlen. This venture lasted for a year's time. In time, the boys relocated to Texas where they picked up guitarist Kevin Allen and bassist Neil Busch.

In 1998, the band released a self-titled album under the Trace Syndicate label. The name of the group is said to have been derived from an ancient Mayan ritual chant, although the band members appear to speak jokingly of it.
