In 2000, the family-owned and operated business Alfalfa King came into existence. The family had been producing alfalfa and other grass hays for 30 years at their Bill Hartman Ranch in Fish Lake Valley, Nevada.

Today, the company uses a technique called double compression to create a mini-bale and squeeze air out while locking in freshness. This process helps hold the leaf, while a specially-coated box ensures hay isn't damaged in transport of exposed to the sun. In addition, Alfalfa King is the first company to offer hay in four- and five-pound boxes.
