Known for rockin' "In Da Club," rapper 50 Cent has grown into one of the most popular music artists in the world. Although 50 Cent founded G-Unit Records and the G-Unit Clothing Company, his success is eclipsed only by the story of his upbringing.

Born Curtis Jackson III, 50 Cent was raised by his single mother in Queens until she passed away. After moving in with his grandmother, his childhood and adolescence included selling drugs, being arrested and getting shot nine times - in front of his grandmother's home. The latter incident, which included a shot to the cheek, caused 50 Cent's slight-but-noticeable slur.

50 Cent was discovered by Eminem in 2002, giving Jackson mainstream stardom, beginning with his debut album Get Rich or Die Tryin'. Meanwhile, his book From Pieces to Weight: Once upon a Time in Southside Queens has given new hope to troubled youth.
