Known for their diversity, 3 Mustaphas 3 used a wide range of genres from across the globe during composition. The band's slogan is "Forward in All Directions," representing their embrace of all cultural music.

Formed in 1986, 3 Mustaphas 3 is classified under British World Music. Hijaz Mustapha and Sabah Habas Mustapha were the core band members, said to be nephews of Uncle Patrel Mustapha. Of course, the musicians all made use of pseudonyms to carry on the unifying theme.

The first album, Shopping (1987) focused mostly on Egyptian film music while their second, Heart of Uncle (1989) presented a mix of Irish, Middle Eastern, Latin American and Mediterranean sounds. The last album composed by 3 Mustaphas 3 was released in 2001.
