Actor Jared Leto opened big doors for the alternative rock band, 30 Seconds to Mars. Interestingly enough, the Hollywood actor and lead singer refused to play at venues that used his fame to promote ticket sales.

Originally, 30 Seconds to Mars was a family project with brother/drummer Shannon. Sooner than imagined, the band began to pick up speed as bassist and keyboarder Matt Wachter joined the team. Once guitarist Tomo Milicevic strummed along, it was all over (or just beginning rather), for this Los Angeles based band.

The band's self titled debut was released in late 2002, followed by the 2005 release of A Beautiful Lie. The name 30 Seconds to Mars was borrowed from a thesis written by a Harvard professor about growth of technology in relation to humans. The band was the first ever to shoot a music video in the People's Republic of China.
