After punk band Black Flag was arrested on stage for disturbing the peace, fellow rockers the Urinals were inspired to put a more grown-up spin on their music. But when the band's name no longer represented what the members and songs were about, a new moniker, 100 Flowers, was adopted.
The band took its name from a Maoist Cultural Revolution quotation: "Let 100 flowers bloom and 100 schools of thought contend." They created an 8-track album which fueled enough music disputes to cause the band's break up in 1983. The album was released a month later.
100 Flowers was made up of vocalist Delia Frankel, guitarist Steve Willard, bassist John Jones, Kevin Barrett and Kjehl Johansen.
